Well-known Member. Apr 1, 2007. #1. I'm looking at buying a fiat punto on a tight budget but i want the shape with the sharp rear lights if you know what i mean. Anyway thats irrelevant i've found a bargain 2000 reg, it has a long mot and a few extras but it has done 125000 miles. Thats right one hundred and twenty five thousand. Good to save battery. 21) Punto has a mechanism that prevents airlock when the fuel goes empty. The car stops with approx 3 litres of fuel still remaining in tank which will be in accessible . So when you refill again your car is back to normal unlike other cars where the airlock has to be released by manually pumping the fuel pump.
Like all of my FIATs, this car has proved to be highly reliable & practicable (almost as good as the first Pandas). It is serviced annually by a FIAT dealership. For walking holidays in this country (& until recently in France), I tow a fully laden 3 ft luggage trailer (no problems), the generous boot space being taken up by a GSD.
IMHO Figo's hydraulic unit is polar opposite of Punto's. First of all it's amazingly light in city and weighs up ok on the highway. But it is extremely responsive off center! So even if you move the wheel a little bit either side of "12" the car responds more than your input. Because of this when I first drove the Figo I felt "what a fidgety car!".
And people who own bigger cars think it’s good to have a small car to switch to. It works better than I thought on highways, I can easily to go 65-70, pre-owner says it goes to 80, but I don’t think it’s a good idea. can easily fit four people although I don’t recommend it. Overall it’s a pretty slow car and it has its many weaknesses.
I've been running a 1.3MJ 90 for about 18 months now and overall the car is good the turbo lag is much worse on the 90 than the 75 but you learn to drive around it and the economy comes nowhere near to fiats claims (maybe as a result of driving around the turbo lag) I ran a 307 2.0 HDI 110 before and the economy was about the same.
Is Fiat Punto a good car? The Fiat Punto is a well-built car with good driving dynamics. The quality of plastics used inside are not the best and it doesn't get a lot of features. You can get a used Fiat Punto for around Rs. 1.2 lakh to Rs. It needs a bit of welding like most Puntos of this era due to rust. This is because I have had it parked for long periods of time, just driving it a few hundred miles a year. In addition, pretty much the whole car is original, original being genuine original fiat parts, most being the ones the car was manufactured with.
When Punto was launched 12 years ago, it was the first 5-star Euro NCAP car, in its class. The importance of safety to the FCA group is demonstrated by the number of new models achieving 5 stars
The first car that used this engine was Alfa Romeo 156 in 1997 (105 PS, 77 kW, 104 hp), making it the world's first common-rail diesel passenger car. In 1999, it was introduced on the Fiat Punto JTD with a smaller, fixed-geometry turbocharger and 80 PS (59 kW; 79 hp), as well as in the Fiat Brava , Bravo and Marea range.

Much like how the brand name Xerox corresponds to a photocopy machine and “Google it” is a phrase to search the internet, back in the 1970s and 80s, Fiat referred to the car you owned. No model name, no variants followed, just “Fiat”.
Going by its abysmal safety ratings, the Fiat Punto may even class as a bad first car because its competitors present a much safer option. Viable alternatives to the Fiat Punto as first cars include: Vauxhall Corsa

Their sales, however, has been free falling since 2014 and has dropped to 41% in 2018. It is the lowest mark of the company since their reintroduction to the US market after a 25 year absence. Things continued to get worse for Fiat. Fiat sales in the U.S. decreased by 69.3% in 2020, to 11,301 vehicles. This was due to the COVID-19 pandemic

The Fiat Punto is a small supermini car made by Fiat. This hatchback has been in construction from 1993 to 2018, featuring over three generations. The first generation was produced in 1993, the second generation in 1999, and the third generation in 2005.
