It's 'Gryphon 2.0'. So I propose that, any account that has both the Gryphon & the Skyscale unlocked for use, can get skyscale flight using either one. Barring gryphon races, of course; Those are still gryphon-only. Because who's going to use the gryphon to get around when the skyscale does it better?

The skyscale is a slower "aircraft" but it is very suitable for scaling heights and is where its strengths lie. And yes, the masteries are the entire point of the mount. Don't complain about a mount's uselessness before getting all of its uses. Eh, midair mounting is nice, but isn't actually used that often. The way this is worded is confusing. If you own living world season 4, then you unlock the mastery track. This does not unlock the Skyscale itself, as you have to do a long collection chain to have the mount permanently accessible like other mounts. So, I assume this means that if you finish flight training, you then unlock the Skyscale mastery
No. Guild Wars 2 is not designed for free flight. As it is, I often feel severely restricted on the griffon due to invisible walls and hitting the end of the map. As for the topic on hand, I see no problem with the skyscale acquisition. I started working on it a bit, and got it without focusing on getting it. Not sure how long it took, but I wasn't worried about that. I think the skyscale is only perceived as a problem when a player attempts to get the skyscale within a few days. Yeah skyscale does the job easier than griffon if you struggle with precise griffon landing. But when you need to go any real distance or have to navigate down/around/back-up through a series of obstacles, griffon will get you there a lot quicker once you Here's a potential solution to the Skyscale: Keep the Green Flight bar only for when you reach past a certain altitude that breaks the map, add invisible walls to every map so you don't break it, and make the Skyscale twice as fast as it is now while in flight, but not faster than the Gryphon at full speed.
