Been going back and forth on whether it's worth $399 for the CarPlay update for the vehicle or not. I use my phone as an audio source, either iTunes, Spotify or Audible (audio books), 99% via bluetooth. I have taken delivery of a Canadian CX-90 MHEV GT-P with the 10.25" display and I can confirm that it is non-touch for Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. To my understanding, only vehicles with the 12.3” display are touch enabled (which in Canada would be the Signature trim only). As you can see in the photo of the 2018 mazda CX-5 the head unit protrudes from the dashboard meaning standard replacement head units won’t be possible. Alternatively, you can see in the 2009 Mazda 6 picture there is a dashboard area where a new wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen could fit.

Takes about 3-5 sec to connect. There is a 1/3 sec delay when clicking but aside from that it's a worthy upgrade for me. Recommend for people who want a wireless connection. I ordered one a month or so ago, for my 2021 Mazda cx30, but I cannot get mine to work.
