The Great Ocean Road is not the road to Adelaide. You can continue beyond the Great Ocean Road to reach Adelaide if you are interested and have sufficient time. Otherwise you can return to Melbourne by the inland route. I think sunset is around 5pm these days, and feels even earlier when it's cloudy.
